NAPIER COURT.
(Before Mr A. M Mowlem. S.M.) TO-DAY’S CASES. Reg. Vercoe was convicted and discharged on a charge of cycling at night without a light. David Rees and Ernest Swales were charged with, leaving a uu standing at night without lights. The former was fined 10/-, costs 10/-. the latter being ordered to pay costs only, amounting to £1 6/-. Victor B. P. Martin was charged with leaving a lorry on the road facing in the wrong direction He was convicted and ordered to oav costs. 10/-, the defendant being given the benefit of the doubt. Jas. B. Franklin was fined £1 plus costs 10/- on a similar charge. Clive Haggett was charged with leaving a motor-car 'to stand in Emersojj street for more than t wen tv minutes. Fined £l. costs 10/-. Keith Kingston, who rode a motorcycle in Emerson strej. without a number ou the front oi his vehicle, was fined £l. costs 10/Peter Carwardine pleaded pot guilty to a charge of assaulting \\ Lawson. He was remanded to appear next Mondav. /bail being allowed in £5O. or two sureties of £25. Antonio Vaunchutti was charged with attempting to commit suicide on Saturday In applying for a remand, Senior-Sergeant Powell intimated that the defendant was to undergo a medical examination, as it was considered he was mentally deficient. A remand to next Mondav was granted. L. G. Hamilton appeared on two charges of alleged false pretences, one at Napier and one at Palmerston North. On the application of Senior Detective Butler, who mentioned that there was a possibility of several other charges of a similar nature, a remand until next Monday was granted.
