About £400,000 is contemplated to be spent by the aCnadian Government in the establishment at Ottawa of laboratories for the promotion of scientific and industrial research. A site is now being located. The institute is sought to continue the functions of tho Mellon Institute at Pittsburg, the national laboratories in London and the bureau of standards at Washington. Heretofore, operating on a very limited scale, the Research Council has- co-operated with the universities and this will continue, but Ottawa will be the centre of the work. It is proposed to engage the best men available, while private firms will also be privileged to send their research experts t< use the equipment of the laboratory.
