ENGINEER STRIKES.
SUMMONSES SERVED. COURT’S ORDER DISOBEYED. Sydney, Aug. 11. Summonses have been served on those strikers in the engineering industry who refused to obey the order of the Arbitration Court directing them to resume work. Summonses have also been served on the Amalgamated Engineering Union to which most of the men belong. Each man, if convicted, is liable to a fine of £lOO ro three months’ imprisonment. and the union to a penalty of £lOOO for each day the strike continues.
A mass meeting of strikers reaffirmed their refusal to obey the Court’s order and agreed to take drastic steps to thwarf all attempts to enforce the order by such legal action as is now being taken. Any striker convicted will refuse to pay but will go to gaol and the dispute will be continued until he is released.
