Temporary Reprieve

For Sacco and Vanzetti. APPEAL TO STATE SUPREME COURT ALLOWED. HEARING NEXT TUESDAY [By Cable —Press Assn. — Copyright.) (Received 12, 10.5 a.m.) New York, August 11. Counsel for Sacco and Vanzetti gained a further victory when .Mr Justice Sanderson allowed an appeal to the Full Bench of the State Supreme Court from his denial of a writ of error. The appeal will probably be heard on August IG. because members of the Bench are now on vacation, but all are within easy reach. It is generally regarded as doubtful, however, whether this is likely to prove effective, as the same Court has already decided against the condemned men on two previous occasions. The general impression seems to be that the Governor did not wish the defence to be deprived of any possible opportunity to obtain the fullest justice, and therefore granted the temporary reprieve. In the meantime the tension throughout the United States is considerably lessened. —(A. and N Z.) BOMB IN LONDON RESTAURANT(Received 12, 10.30 a.m.) London, Aug. 11. A scare was caused in the East End of London by the discovery of a live bomb in an eating-house in the early morning. The proprietor's daughter found it projecting from the public telephone and put it in a pail of water and then dashed off to summon the police who removed it.—(A. and N.Z.)
