AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS ROBERTS AND DEVINE PLAY. Wellington, Aug. 11. Playing in the amateur billiards championships to-night. E. V. Roberts (Auckland), holder, gave a taste of championship billiards, although not at his best form. He met P- Devine (Petone), a fair all-round player, but not in Roberts’ class. The Aucklander gave a pretty display at the top of the table in a break of 98, and turned on the red in 72- He gained steadily all the way through to win. Roberts 666. Devine 470.
