COMPASSIONATE ALLOWANCE

NAPIER WIDOW’S PETITION. (Special to “Tribune.”) Parliament Buildings, Aug. 11. A compassionate allowance of £250 is pleaded for by Mrs. Catherine Jane Crook, of Petane Beach, in a petition to Parliament in respect of the death of her husband, Joseph Crook, who was accidotully killed at Mount Eden gaol, Auckland, in August, 1926, while serving a term of imprisonment. The petitioner is now in receipt of £4 6/8 widow's pension, has no other income, and has recei'- no compensation or allowance i. respect nf Crook's death. The only child of the marriage, aged 11, is deformed and a partial cripple as a result of infantile paralysis. The petitioner states that she is unemployed, in poor health, and has a £l5O mortgage and liabilities to pay, and desires medical and surgical attention for her son.
