FIANNA FAIL

TO TAKE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE DE VALERA DOES NOT SEEK OFFICE. London, Aug. 10. Fianna Fail, after a seven hours' conference at Dublin, decided by 42 votes to 7 to take the oath of allegiance. Their action is expected to precipitate a Government crisis on Friday when the Public Safety and Electoral Amendment Bills come before Dail. The Government will be placed in a minority on the Public Safety Bill because the Fianna Failites will have the support of Labour, the Farmers and the IndependentsIt is not part of do Valera’s plans to take office himself in the event of the Government being defeated. Negotiations are in progress to put Mr. Johnson, who will head the Labourites, into power with the general support of the Fianna Fail and certain Independents and Nationalists.—(A. and N.Z.) DE VALERO'S APPEAL FOR BOYCOTT FAILS. (Received 11, 2.35 p.m.) London, Aug. 10. “The Daily Mail’s” Dublin correspondent says that de Valera made a strong appeal tor continuance of the boycott ot the Dail but failed to impress his followers, the majority declaring that the Electoral Bill had completely changed the situation and that therefore, a change of policy was essential to save the party from extinction.

De Valera, under strong pressure, finally agreed to release deputies from their election pledges against accepting a position which involved the oath of allegiance to a foreign power. —(A. and N.Z.)
