DAYLIGHT SAVING.
FARMERS’ UNION PROTESTS. PETITIONS TO THE HOUSE. (Special to “Tribune.”) Parliamentary Buildings, Aug. 10. A petition presented to the House of Representative yesterday by Mr W. S. Glenn (Rangitikei) on behalf of the Farmers’ Union says that the principle of daylight saving as contained in the Summer Time Bill now before Parliament is too dangerous to the agricultural and pastoral industries of this country to justify its being experimented with at a time like the present when those industries arc in the most precarious condition they have experienced for many years. The petitioners urge that a strong endeavour be made to keep the proposed legislation off the Statute Book until at least the primary in dustries of the Dominion are in such a sound position that, should the principle be found to be harmful, any harm done would have less permanent effect than would be the case at the present time. The annual conference of the women’s division of the conference have also presented a petition stating that the principle of the bill would bo. harmful to farmers' wives and children as the bill would seriously interfere with household and school duties and with the health of country women and children.
