OTANE.
(Own Correspondent.) The local school children had a splendid day’s sport ou Saturday, when the Onga Onga School children paid a visit to play football and basketball. In the football match the boys had an easy win by 29 to nil. They had the advantage of size and science and showed evidence of excellent coaching. The girls also had a win but this was a much better contested match. Both sides were matched as to size, but the local girls had the advantage of special coaching which turned the tables. Mr F. Williams refereed the football and Miss Fabian the basketball. This will places the Otane and the Waipawa boys equal and they will have to play off for the district championship. The same afternoon the men’s football team went to Elsthorpe and defeated the local team by 12 to 3, R. Pilcher kicking a goal from the field, and G. Collins and Shorty scoring tries, one of which Page converted. Hayden scored an unconverted try for the Elsthorpe team. A special shield has been presented for this competition and Elsthorpe will strive to regain it on the 20th at Otane.
