PAKI PAKI.
GRAND CONCERT. (Own Correspondent.) On Friday evening a very successful concert was held in the Paki Paki Hall in aid of the school funds, and as a wind-up of the first series of social evenings. A long programme of excellent items was presented, and the audience showed their appreciation in no uncertain voice. The following iteqis were presented:—Pianoforte duet, Mrs anil Miss Lancaster; action song. “The Tin Can Fusiliers,’’ the children.; vocal solo. Miss Pohe; dialogues; Lancaster family; recitation, “Elizabeth Visits. London,” Mabel Bartlett; recitation, Treve Hopkinson; a half-hour of song and dance, the Charleston Party from Waipawa; recitation and Maori warcry, Mr. Puhara; vocal quartette, Misses Stowe and Wallace. Messrs Hayman and Jones; vocal duets, Misses Stowe and Wallace and Miss Stowe and Mr. Jones; vocal solos, Miss Stowe. Miss Wallace. Mr. Jones and Mr. Hayman; mandolin solo, Mr Thompson. During the interval Mr. H. J. Anderson presented the prizes, to the winners of the aggregate points in the euchre tournaments. He also, on behalf of the committee, made presentations to Mrs Robertson and Mr. Wi Kani, who have so ably assisted the committee by playing for all their dances. Their services had been freely given and all who have attended the fortnightly socials realise the good,fortune of the committee in having such excellent music at their disposal. At the conclusion of the programme Mr. Anderson expressed the committee’s appreciation of the ser vices of the artists who bad given the evening’s entertainment. In thanking the audience for their attendance he stated that a further series of social evenings would be commenced on Friday evening. On Thursday last the local school sent basketball and football teams to Hastings to play teams representing the Central School. Centra] won in both games, the scores being: Basketball 11—7. football 18—nil. At tue contusion of the game tTie visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. The teachers and children wish to express their thanks to Mr Rosser, Mr Waimarama Pnhara and Mr. Hnrikino for conveying the children to an<] from town.
