A human skeleton, believed to be that of Rati Wiri Paeroa. aged 53. who was reported missing from Port Awanui on June 15. 1917. was found in dense bush between Port Awanui and Reporua on Friday. Near the skeleton was a double-barrelled shotgun, lying as if it had been across the bodv with two discharged cartridges in the breach. A portion of a live cartridge was found among the bones. Parts of the skeleton and clothing were missing but this can be accounted for. as wild pigs abound in this region and the bodv might have been attacked bv these animals. The police do not suspect foul plav and consider that death was caused either bv accident or suicide. 11. M. Bennett. F. 1.0., F.S.M.S. London Optician visits Hastings on Tuesdays. 9 to 4.30.
