DERELICT SUBMARINE.
MYSTERY SURROUNDS IDENTITY. POISONOUS FUMES FROM HOLD. (Received 9, 9.25 a.m.) Honolulu Aug. 8. Mystery surrounds the identity of a derelict submarine reported floating in the Pacific between Honolulu and Yokohama. A search of records by shipping men of all the world ports have failed ’to shed any light on the name or nationality of the menacing . hulk which is reported to have been discovered by the steamer Liberator 1150 miles from Honolulu. Poisonous fumes escaping from the hold of the submarine prevented a search, therefore it is unknown whether the bodies of the crew arc aboard.—(A. and N.Z.)
