Ex-Mayor Honoured. PRESENTATION OF ADDRESS GIFT TO EX-MAYORESS. At a public gathering representative of Waipukurau and the surrounding districts, held mst night, His Worship the Mayor (Mr, R. McLean) presiding, the ex-Mayor (Mr. E. A. Goodger) and the ex-Mayoress were honoured. The presentation to Mr. Goodger took the form of an illuminated address, and that to Mrs Goodger a silver teapot, suitably ingraved. TEXT OF ADDRESS. The following is the full text of the address: - • “To E. A. Goodger, Esq — Sir, —On the occasion of your retirement from the office of Mayor of Waipukurau after eight years’ service in that capacity, your many friends in Waipukurau and the surrounding districts desire to place on permanent record their appreciation of the loyal and valuable services you have rendered to the Borough of Waipukurau as well as generally to Central Hawke’s Bay We recall to your credit and the ad\ antage of the community as a whole the various and important public activities with which your name is associated, embracing not only responsibilities incidental to you r Mayoral position, but earlier efforts as a borough councillor, then a foundation member of the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board (being chairman of the Provisional Committee), member of the Waipawa Hospital Board, Waipawa District Licensing Committee, chairman of tlm Waipukurau Power Board, a fid more recently a member of the Napier Harbour 'Board. Semi-public endeavours have included service on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, of which you were a founder, ’the Waipukurau District High School Committee, and Hawke’s Bay Education Board. Borough draiiAe, electric lighting, housing, enlargement, and the municipal theatre are among the outstanding achievements of your regime as Mayor.

Of your various efforts in the sphere of social affairs we remember in particular the formation of the dental clinic as being due to your •characteristic public spiritedness. In all of these, as well as many other directions, notable initiative has been displayed and th© fact convincingly revealed that the welfare of the town and district has over been your first consideration.

We recognise in connection with these numerous duties ably and enthusiastically discharged tlie great sacrifices that have inevitably devolved upon Mrs Goodger, and heartily desire to associate he r name with this tribute of esteem and goodwill.

Fowler, treasurer, Presentation Committee; John Winlove. chairman. Presentation Committee.”

Speeches were delivered by the Mayor, Messrs A. C. Russell, Chas. Pattison J. E. Hall. W. Y. Bryce, and J. Ashby (Otane), bv way of endorsement as to the sentiments contained in the address. Mr John Winlove, as chairman of the Presentation Committee, handed Mr. Goodger the illuminated address and a purse of sovereigns, expressing the goodwill of the burgesses of Waipukurau and settlers of the adjacent districts, while to Mrs Goodger iie presented a silver teapot, engraved as follows:—“Presented to Mrs E. A. Goodger by the citizens of Waipuku rau and district, in recognition of her services during her term as Mayoress. 1919-1927.”

The song of the ex-Mayor and Mayoress were the recipients of books suitably inscribed.

MR. GOODGER’S REPLY. Mr. Goodger, in acknowledging the eulogistic tributes and the gifts, said tir* he deeply appreciated the kindly sentiments placed on record To the councillors who had served under him he wished credit to be given and he said the part played by his wife had been one involving special sacrifices. Apologies for absence were tendered from Sir George Hunter. M.P.. Messrs H. M. Rathbone. Mayor of Waipawa. W H. Rathbo.ne, chairman of the Waipawa Hospital Board. H. M. Tansley. Town Clerk, and P. R. Smyrk, secretary to the Hospital Board, while a telegram of a very complimentary nature was read from Messrs J. Vigor Bruwn (Mayor of Napier) and J. C. Bryant, members of the Harbour Board. CONCERT PROGRAMME A concert programme followed, the Orphans’ Orchestra, Miss Gray, «nd Messrs J. Bryce, J. R Cook. E. Haldane (vocal items), F. V. Ward (monologue features) and Mann. Cooper and McLeod (mandolin trio) being responsible, with Mrs Ward and Mr S H Wood playing the pianoforte accompaniments. The various artists were accorded a good reception. With a vote of thanks proposed by the Mayor and the singin <r of the National Anthem, the proceedings terminated.
