Total lor five wickets 131 GENTLEMEN v. PLAYERS. KENNEDY’S RECORD BOWLING. London, July 8. The Gentlemen, in the first innings, made 80, Kennedy taking dO for 37, and in the second they made 181 for 8, Kennedy 2 for 21. The match was drawn. Only on 34 other occasions have ten wickets been taken by one man in first class cricket. Rain on Thursday, followed by hot sunshine yesteday, made the wicket most treacherous. Before lunch, Kennedy pitched the ball between middle and leg stumps, turning a little from the leg, then getting up quickly. This break was obtained by east, not finger-spin, and was combined with complete accuracy and length. Kennedy had Parsons, Meads and Hendren caught in the slips and two at short leg. Hearne, bowling at the other end. was possibly indulgent. He had a chance to get a wicket caught and howled and manv spectators thought he dropped the ball deliberately in order not to spoil Kenned./s chance.—(A. .and N.Z.)
