NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. GREAT INTEREST AROUSED. The Napier Boxing Association, intends to leave no stone unturned in an endeavour to run, with credit, the greatest amateur boxing contests held in New Zealand. These contests are causing a big stir in the boxing world and the interest can be guaged- from the fact that Horowhenua is sending four members along with their lofic representative, and Dunedin is sending nine with their team of two. Other associations will wire for accommodation during the week- So far about 130 have asked to be put up, which is sufficient evidence that Napier will stage the largest gathering of its kind seen out in New Zealand. Some really thrilling contests are guaranteed and patrons can rest assured that they will get a lot more than their money’s worth. Not less than 20 contests wiil be run each evening, equal to four hours of boxing. It is doubtful whether time can be found for the usual interval and instead of it taking three evenings to reach the finals it is quite apparent that two afternoon sessions will have to be run. The secretary was instructed to tender Mr S. D. J. Cohen the association’s thanks for assistance in arranging afternoon tea for boxing visitors on their outing next Sunday.
