LABT EVENING'S SESSION. NOTICE OF NEW BILLS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, Aug. 23. The House of Representatives met at 7.30 p.m. Notice was given of intention to introduce the following bills:—Waimakariri River Improvement (Minister of Public Works) and Lights on Vehicles Amendment (Minister of Internal Affairs). Replying to Mr. D. G. Sullivan, who asked if men employed on relief works could be paid oftener than monthly, the Minister of Public Works said officials had arranged that men in such cases could draw fortnightly up to 75 per cent, of the money due to them. The Companies Amendment Bill (Mr. Veitch) was introduced, read the first time and set down for the second reading to-morrow week. BILLS READ SECOND TIME The following local bills were read the second time: —Whangarei County Council Empowering, Eastbourne Borough Bank Account and Empowering, Petone and Lower Hutt Gaslighting Amendment, Wellington City Empowering and Amendment, Otago Harbour Board Empowering, Christchurch Tramway District Amendment. Mosgiel Borough Empowering, Auckland Electric Power Board Amendment, Auckland City Council Empowering, and Wellington City Milk Supply Amendment.

House proceeded to consider these measures in committee. The whole of the local bills were put through committee unaltered, except in the case of the Wellington City Milk Supply Amendment, wherein minor Amendments were made. Al! were then read the third time and passed. WORKERS’ COMPENSATION The Workers’ Compensation Act Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor-General’s message. The Minister of Labour explained that the measure provided for the liberalising of payments and increased amounts to 66 2-3 per cent, of wages in the case of partial incapacity and up to £l,OOO in the case of fata] injuries. The bill was read the first time and the second time pro forma, and referred to the Labour Bills Committee. The Electrical Wiremen’s Rcgistra. tion Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor-General’s message and read the first time. The Minister of Public Works explained that the bill gave unqualified but competent wiremen a better opportunity to obtain remunerative employment.

The annual reports of the State Forest, Defence, Labour, Agriculture and Tourist Departments were laid upon the table, and the House adjourned till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
