A meeting of farmers and others interested will be held in the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s rooms, Hastings, on Wednesday, 25th. August, at 2 15 p.m., to consider the desirability of langerim lucerne growing as a protection against the frequently occurring droughts in Hawke’s Bay. Mr. Macpherson (late New Zealand Government Lucerne Specialist) will addres ,the meeting.
On Saturday morning in Palmerston North, at ten o’clock, a welldressed young woman, wearing a gold wristlet watch, a gold neck 'N'liin, silken hose, and other sign s of fashionable affluence, lay down to sleep on the front verandah of a residence in Church street. A halfempty whisky flask disclosed the cause of her early retirement nnd an insistent policeman with the help of a taxi, after loud protests and a struggle, gave her a temporary reluge. She was to be given an opportunity, of telling her version or the affair in Court thi s morning.
