FRENCHMAN DEFEATED DY WILLIAMS. Sydney, Aug. 22. At the Stadium Jim Williams easily defeated Marcel Thiirn. the French middleweight, in the fourth round, when the referee stopped the fight after the Frenchniiin had been floored six times. I N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS, CONTESTANTS ARRIVING. Teams for the. championships to take place at Napier are now getting on the scene. Ihe Greymouth team arrived bv to-day's mail train and put up at the Central Hotel. Tho Treston Shield will most likely be competed tor during the championships, and the team lor the shield will appear in to-morrow’s pajrers. The teams will train in the various gymnasiums about Napier, particulars of which can be supplied bv the secretary. Wellington is bringing a particularly strong team, and is right alter the Treston Shield. Their team for this trophy is Horne, Larsen, Adams, Morgan. Urwin, Cleverley, Kvatt, and Hooper. Morgan and Hooper are Hie present New XMilaud amateur champions. The Hawke’s Bay team is to be selected from W.-u'ron. Hastings, Dannevirke and Napier, and quite a lair side will enter the ring. Everything is in lull blast lot what appears to hr, and no doubt i-. the largest gathering nl boxers sean out in New Zealand.
