SPECIAL MEETING NEXT WEEK

SEVERAL NOTICES OF MOTION.

Owing to the special meeting ot the Napier Harbour Board called for last Wednesday not being in accordance with the Harbour Act, in that only three days* notice was given instead of four, a further special meeting of the Board will be held next Wednesday, when the following business will be dealt with:—

(a) To receive report of the Board’s committee that appeared before the Local Bills Committee of the House on the 12th. inst. Regarding “The Napier Harbour Board Empowering and Loan Bill, 1926.’’ (b) In view of the immediate necessity for reclamation at Napier the Board consider the question of urging that the above Bill, with such amendments as the Board may desire to make, be reconsidered by the Local Bills Committee of the House at the present session of Parliament.

(c) To receive report from Messrs. Hay and Rochfort with regard to the reclamation of the North and South ponds at Port Ahuriri. (d) Motions of which notices have been given by:—

Messrs. J. V. Brown, J. C. Bryant and P. F. Higgins: (1) That the Board immediately commence operations in its quailies for the purpose of obtaining stone to be used in the repairing and renewing of the piers and I West Quay at the Inner Harbour as recommended by the Public Works Department some months ago.

(2) That loan money in hand be used for the Work mentioned in motion No. 1 hereof.

(3) That, if it is not permissible to use loan money in hand for purposes mentioned in Motion No. 1 hereof, the Board apply to the Government for authority to raise a loan to relieve tinemploy. inent in this district to be used for work herein mentioned.

(4) That, if there is any real immediate • demand for land at Port Ahuriri, the waste material from quarrying operations, seeing stone is urgently required, can be utilized for the purpose of carrying out the necessary reclama, tion of the ponds. (5) That Messrs. Hay and Rochfort he asked to expedite their report on the reclamation of the ponds. Mr. J. C. Bryant:— (1) That the Napier Harbour Board enter into negotiations with the Napier Borough Council with a view to tho latter body undertaking the reclamation of the Boarms areas, No. 2,3, reported on by Messrs. Hay and Rochfort, on the basis of the Council being protected against loss, and the assets remaining the property of the Napier Harbour Board. (2) As an alternative to the above: That the Napier Harbour Board tnko the necessary steps to constitute a subsidiary board, to bo known as the “Napier Harbour Reclamation Board,” the sole function of this board being to carry out the reclamation and settlement of the Board’s endowments.
