One deiendant, tor cruelty to a horse, was fined £3 and costs, and the Hurd ca.se was dismissed. Owing to the drought in Hawke’s Bay. there have been many cases where sufficient, leed and water has not been available, and the inspector has found it necessary on a. number ol occasions to order stock to be shifted to other paddocks. Animal Welfare Week was observed in October, and the committee was able to secure the support of the churches, the schools, and the press throughout Hawke’s Bay, in the way of sermons, addresses and articles on the subject of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The thanks ol the committee are due to the police for their ready assistance, to the honorary solicitors who have conducted prosecutions, and to the honorary veterinary surgeon for his willing assistance. Ten new mem-la-rs joined the society during the year. The income was sufficient to cover the expenditure.
