The Trapper 7.0. WARWICK FARM MEETING. Sydney, March 26. Rain is greatly interfering with Randwick training, as the tracks are thoroughly sodden. The outlook lor to-nioffow’s Warwick Farm meeting in which a number of New Zealand horses, including Runnymede, are engaged, is not cheerful. | DIVOTS. Dug by “Tiie De.lv.er.” Oil Monday next acceptances are : due for Waipukurau (8 pan., but with telegraph office closing at 5 pm.), Fcilding, and Wairarapa. On Tuesday , nominations will be taken , fur Manhwatu, and oil Wednesday acceptances for Canterbury. For his 1600-guineas yearling Absurd —Eulogy filly Mr. G. D. Greenwo/xl has claimed the name of Eulahe, ano the Limond—Waterwings Sea Elf) colt that cast him 87J guineas is. to be known as Agrioil. After discussing his running at Bulls this week, a Wellington writer says: •Fool’s Paradise is a very disappointing gelding this season. Possibly racing over distances has spoiled his brilliancy.” One little punter after sure things had £5 on Commendation .in the Juvenile Handicap at Bulls this weea, but is said to have sold the five tickets lor £1 when he saw how badly Commendation was playing up at the post. He must have “chewed the rag” for quite a while after seeing the Limond gelding score. A Christchurch exchange states that A. M’Aulav has made arrangements lor a trip to Auckland with Tarleton and Sun Up. Both horses will be raced at the Easter meeting, while Sun Up will also fulfil engagements at the Avondale meeting, to be held at Ellerslie a week later Sun Up has shown himself in winning vein lately at South Island minor meetings, and with only 7.2 in the mile race at Elle*slie must have at least an outside chance. It would appear as if those who collected the substantial dividend paid by Roman Archer when he won the livehorse Bucklev Memorial Handicap at Oamaru on Thursday had the luck on tiieir side. Owing to a wretched start Mantua, who was well fancied, lost fully 100 yards and Courtly Rose did not get away at all. The trouble appeared to be caused through the starter calling “Go,” but not icieasmg the lever. Hie Cheat and Scion in the centre broke the tapes, one round of which encircled Mantua and her jockey, and Courtly Rose was also encumbered. An enquiry was held into the mix-up and the starter’s explana. tion that the barrier refused to wbrk was accepted. Roman Archer is an Australian-bred 4-year-old gelding by Bowman—Ga ila, a lid cost his present owner, Mr. A. H. Eisner, 200 guineas as a yearling. In the Railway Handicap, 7 furlongs, at last Saturday’s Rosehdl (Sydney) meeting, after which Runnymede pulled up lame, the New Zealander was weighted at 9st., being next to the top-weight, Red Gauntlet, who was allotted 9st. 81b'. When the Limond—Farce two-year-old gelding Mehailder beat Royal Tcu and Lady Constance in the Juvenile Stakes at Rosehill (Sydney) last Saturday he had all the best of the weights, being set to carry only 7.11 against their 9.3 and 9.4 respectively. An enquirer asks for information as to the “deductions” made in connection with the Tasmanian Tattersall's “consultations.” Taking the figures on the oiheial distribution sheet, oi the £27,500 ordinarily received onlj xi/,718 15s goes back in prize-money. That means that £9,781 5s is retained in the little island State, of which £2,bUO goes to the promoters and the balance to the Government by way or taxation in one iorm iind ano suer, thus the body of subscribers loses something like 35 per cent.>or 7s in the £, or its money. IStill, the consultations, probably well over a score oi them each year, scarcely ever fail to fill—with fairly big contributions iroiu N.Z., too, despite our futile prohibitive legislation. Acushla, a filly by Prince Merriweo -Jolie Title, is an acceptor for the Onslow Stakes at Ellerslie next Saturday. On Thursday last she showed a good turn of speed over half a mile at L’Jlersiie. She has so far only started once and may perhaps be a better proposition on the second than on the nrst day of the meeting. Mr. D. J. Barry’s Gisborne team were oh the track at Ellerslie on Thursday morning and gave an impression of being all ready lor coming engagements. Automne, it will be remembered, ran second in both the Glasgow Handicap and the Royal Stakes at the A.R.C. Christmas meeting. Threadneedlc and Automaton were sent over half a mile, and accomplished their task well. Threadneedle won the Sylvia Handicap at Ellerslie on January 2 last. Master Doon (Lucullus—Lassie Doon) has been a distinct disappointment since, as a 3-y ear-old, he won the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie on Boxing Day, 1924. He has, however, recently been shaping much better, and at Te Arolia ran a good second to Gala Day over a mile. On Thursday at Ellerslie he went well oyer 7 fjrlongs and, with only the minimum to carry, he may possibly pay a rood dividend in the Easter Handicap. Pink Note, a recent winner at Gore and at Invercargill, won again twice at Oamaru this week. He is a three-year-old gelding by Paper Money from All Pink, dam of the useful two-year-old Pink Terrace, by Tractor. Pink Note has a good turn of speed and showed great determination in the closing stages of both his races at Oamaru, on each occasion winning with something in hand. The jumpers Tuki and Pittsworth were separately given schooling tasks at Ellerslie this week. Neither had done any jumping since November and, says an" Auckland exchange, it was interesting to observe the different manner in which they schooled. Tuki went slowly and carefully, whereas Pittsworth went dashingly, and was inclined to be a trifle wild in his fencing.

The first of the present season s yearlings from Sir George Clifford’s Stonyhurst Stud have have arrived at Riccarton, and Cutts Brothers will make an early start to break them in. 'lliey are the ba.V coR Broad Moor, by Panmure—Heatherbrae ; brown filly Scramble, by Panmure —Scrimmage; chestnut filly French Leave, by Autumnus —Flitaway ; and chestnut filly Sudden Storm, by Autumnus — tie iter Skelter. H. Duiieu has been engaged to ride Gala. Day in the Easter Handicap, and W. Ryan will be on Lady Ridicule in tlie same event. G. C. Young has been engaged to ride Glemdle m the Brighton Hurdles. Vvith 31 acceptors for the A.R.C. Easter Handicap there is just the possibility of the race having to be r run m two divisions. The probabilities are, however, that scratchings will reduce tlie field to at most 29, the maximum number allowed to start from the Ellerslie mile post. Writing of Commendation’s ill be, haviour at the post on Wednesday at Bulls, “Vedette” says:—“Before the race it ✓could bo seen that the big son of Limond was very much on Ins toes, so that it was x expected that he would be troublesome at the barrier. This did not deter backers from accepting a very short price. “When the order was given to line up both ho and Miss Pat began to play up, but finally Miss Pat stood fairly quietly with the other four, who had stood flat-footed all the time. The assistant starter repeatedly led m Commendation, but just as repeatedly lie backed away, turned round, or peiiouned in some otner manner. Mr. C. J’Connor cannot be commended lor the leniency he extended this horse, it was not at all fair to tne owners of the lour two-year-olds who stood in the \ery cold wind tor quite ten minutes while Commendation played up.” The Invercargill’ writer “Sir Modred” takes issue with •‘Vedette,” or the Wellington “Tost/’ over the latter’s rather depreciatory comparison •of Georgp Young with Asiiley Reid as a rider of races, claiming that, uvei a. distance at any rate, Young is much tlie better of the two and advancing evidence in support of his contention. Ho winds up as follows: -“In his own country Young was given the scantiest of recognition by a number of turf writers, including ‘Vedette,’ and while the majority of the scribes referred to are now diplomatically silent, others, again, are endeavouring to damn the ex-South Island jockey with faint praise who hasten to compare him with horsemen who are seldom seen in the same exalted riding | company. When Young first roue in j Australia the critics did not hail him | all at once, but he won out and proved his case in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in the very best ' company and on various horses and thus survived the acid test as applied in one of the greatest horse-racing countries of tlie world. Facts and figures are against ‘Vedette.’” I Glentruin’s name is absent from the ! acceptance list for the A.R.C. Easter Handicap as it has reached us. ' it would thqs seem that those who have been picking the English mare as the first leg of the C. J.C. double were better informed than the scribes who have (been telling us that she was destined for the Auckland and Avondale meetings. It is still, course, possible for her to fulfil her Riccarton engagments, and yet get to Ellerslie in time for the Avondale All-aged Stakes to be run on that course a fortnight hence, but it would not. give her much time to recover from her long journey .
