HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE. Wellington, Dec. 29. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated the 21th in st. from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — BUTTER. Butter better. Trade passing this week at lower prices. Market closes nt improved tone. Official quotations are: New Zealand. —Finest salted 162 s to W6s per cwt (Is s}d to Is per lb); unsalted. 166 s to 170 s up to 172 s per cwt (Is 53d, Is 6Jd to Is 6A-d per lb); other qualities. 140 s to 160 s per cwt <ls 3d to Is 5d per lb). Australian.— Salted 156 s to 158 s pei cwt (Is 4£d to Is 4fd per lb) ; othei qualities. 134 s to 152 s per cwt (Is 2Jd to Is 43d per lb); unsalted. 158 s to 162 s per cwt (Is 43d to Is sjd per lb); other qualities, 136 s to 148 s per cwt (Is 2|d to Is 33d per lb). Argentine.—Unsalted. 140 s to 146 s per cwt (Is 3d to Is 3Jd per lb) ; other qualities, 130 s to 138 s per cwt Gs Ifd to Is 23d per lb). Siberian.—l 36 to 150 s per cwt (Is 24d to Is 4d per lb). Danish.—l72s to 174 s per cwt (1a 6id per lb). CHEESE. English quiet. Colonial makes slow Official quotations are:— English finest farmers’, unchanged. Canadian.—Finest coloured and white, 106 s to 108 s per cwt (Hid to tl.id per lb). New Zealand. —Coloured and white, 100 s to 102 s per cwt (103 d per lb). Shipment New Zealand cheese arrived. by the Tainui this week. HEMP. Market is of holiday character. Manila market steady and fair business doing. “J” grade up to £45 5s for January-March shipments. Sisal mar ket steady. Tanganyika No. 1 De-cember-February shipments valued at £6 Os 6d; N.Z. steady value, high point £39 10s for December-February shipments, fair £36. TALLOW. No auction this week ; market very dull at about last price. EGGS. Market firmer for the best, others slow. Present quotations are: English, Danish Dutch, 28s to 31s 6d per long 100.; Irish, Belgian. French. 24s to 27s 6d; Australian, Italian, 21s to 245; South African, 13s 6d to 18s; Argentine, Russian, Chinese and Egyptian, 8s 6d to 16s 6d. SHEEP AND LAMBS. Wellington, Dec. 30 The Meat Producers Board advises that the following prices were being offered as at December 24:— Auckland.—Wethers 561bs and under s|d ; second quality wethers, 4|d; ewes 561bs and under, 4d; prime woolly lambs, 361 b s and under BJd, '37 to 421bs Bd, 431bs and over 7d. Poverty Bay.—Wethers, 561bs and under sld, 57 to 641bs 4fd; second quality wethers, 4|d • prime woolly lambs, Bjd, 8d and 7a; second quality lambs, 7}d. Hawke’s Bay.—Wethers 6Jd and s|d; second quality wethers, sd; ewes, 561bs and under 4Jd, 57 to 641bs 4d; prime woolly lambs, 9|d, B£d and Bd.
