BRITISH “MONOPOLY” IN AMERICA. New York, Dec. 29. A Boston message states that a bill seeking a “reprisal” against Britain “for financial hardships” imposed through increased rubber' prices, has been filed in the State Senate by Senator Hennessey. The bill would direct a list of British companies doing business in Massachusetts to ascertain the total amount paid in premiums by these companies during the last five years “in order to enable the people of the commonwealth to take such action as they may deem effective by way of reprisal.” Mr Hennessey asserted that 7,000,000 dollars a year were taken from the United States in excess prices by the British rubber “monopoly,” and that press reports indicated that British interests had decided to support a similar Brazilian coffee monopoly.— (Reuter.)
