N.Z. PROFESSIONAL MEETING. OPENING DAY’S EVENTS. Dunedin, Dec. 29. The first day of the New Zealand professional championship meeting was held at the Caledonian ground to-day in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance, and some fine running was Avitncssed. D. AlcLcnnan (Canterbury) added to his reputation as one of the finest runners seen in New Zealand for a long time past. He von his heat in the .100 yards in time given as 9 4-5, but this time must be open to doubt, as he was running against a fairly brisk breeze. He won the final in 10 1-5. E. Cook was second and C.
