OUTBREAK IN SACK STORE. Auckland, Dec. 29. The city and Parnell Fire Brigades had a strenuous time to-night in fighting a fire in the stock store of J. Kennedy and Sons in Parnell. The fire was located in the upper portion of the building, an inaccessible gable, in which a considerable amount of sacking, twine and jute were stored. An opening had to be cut under the eaves in order to take a lead of hose to the seat of the outbreak. Late to-night the men were still working at the building, removing smouldering sacking. The building and contents are insured for £2OOO in tho New Zealand and Queensland Insurance Companies. PLANTATION SWEPT BY FLAMES. Wanganui, Dec. 29. A disastrous firo occurred at tho Matipo Park, a city reserve, this morning, as a result of which about 30,000 one to two-year pine trees were destroyed. The fire swept several acres. SHOPS DESTROYED AT BLENHEIM Blenheim, Dec. 30. Two shops in the business quarter of the town were total!v destroyed by fire tliis morninpf at 2.30. One was occupied by William Bateman, cvclo dealer, and the other bv Mervyn Patchett. confectioner. Both were practically burnt out before the alarm was given. The brigade made a remarkable save of the adjoining buildings. The shops were owned bv J. B. Rayner, and one was insured for £375, including plate glass and fixtures, and the other for £270, including plate glass, both in the Phoenix office. Bateman’s stock was covered For £350. in the Phoenix office. Patchett’s stock wan insured for £6OO in tho Prudential office. Thc adjoining shops, owned by S. Adams and Mrs J. Hood, and occupied bv Mrs M. Scollard and E. and J. Walton, both ladies’ outfitters, were slightly damaged bv smoke and water. Scollard’s insurances are not known. Walton’s stock was insured for £3OOO. in the Sun office. The damage was very slight. 'I he’ outbreak started in the rear of Patchett’s shop. The origin is unknown.
