On Boxing Day the Fire Brigade turned out to a fire which had started in a wood heap belonging to Mr. W. C. McCormick and situated within a few yards of his house on the To Mata road. Some four or nve cords of sawn wood were destroyed. But for the promptness of the brigade the house itself would have been in grave danger of destruction.
