LONDON BUTTER MERCHANTS HIT. (Received 21, 2.50 p.m.) London, i?ec. 20. The “Westminster Gazette” states that the continued fall in Danish butter has resulted in London merchants losing lortunes. It is explained tnat Germany caused a snoring© m julv by buying largely in anticipation of import duties, and they reaouo>eu their purchases wnen the Australian and New Zealand strike began. m the meantime, Britishers irantically bought cargoes en route, and Danish, whose prices soared. The public refused ug eat dear butter, preferring margarine. The resumption of Australian and New Zealand shipments on an unexpectedly large scale flooded the market.
