NAPIER MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TO-DAY’S CASES. (Before Mr R. W. Dyer, S.M.) MOTOR OFFENCES. ' For leaving a car standing on the Marine Parade without lights Ronald Stewart and Charles Mathews were each fined £1 and 7s costs. Frank Williams pleaded guilty to using an unregistered motor lorry in Napier. In connection with the same case, Anderson and Hansen, garage proprietors, pleaded guilty to permitting an unregistered lorry to be used. YN ilhams was fined 10s and 7s costs and Anderson and Hansen £1 and 7s costs. Ralph Hawkins, a driver for the Aard Company, was charged with taking a corner too sharply while driving a car in Clapham street on November 7th, and with negligent driving on the same road on the same date. A plea of not guilty was entered in each case. Francis Daly said that on the dav *n question he was travelling along Breakwater road at about 18 to 20 miles an hour on his correct side. When nearing the Morgue corner, witness sounded the horn. He noticed an Aard car ahead well over on its wrong side. Witness had no chance of avoiding it. and could only keep to his right side. Evidence was also given by Leonard Gray, a motor mechanic, and Constable Staniland. Tho defendant stated that he sounded his horn before turning the corner. He thought the car was gointr straight on and he did not pull out across the road. On noticing the position he called out instantly and was almost at a standstill when tho collision occurred, He was sure tnat a collision would have occurred and nothing could have avoided it. His Worship said >t was clear that defendant was on his wroncr side, and he had not iustified himself for being so. A conviction was entered on the charge of negligent driving and a fine of £1 and £2 11/- costs was imposed. Tho other charge was withdrawn. VAGRANCY. F. Chanman pleaded guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person at Waipawa on Decenbei 8. A sentence of three months imprisonment with hard labour was imposed.
