LATE COMMERCIAL.
LONDON WOOL SALES. A BETTER TONE. (Received 10. 2.20 p.m.) London, Dec. 9. At the wool sales there was a fair selection of merinos, with prices a shade easier, though the tone was rather better. Average and inferior lots were mostly withdrawn. Average greasv crossbreds were about five to 71 per cent below the opening rates. Super scoured crossbreds were in buyers’ favour. The New Zealand clip “Waihopai” made up to 45d.
Murray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house: —Competition less keen. All wool selling at about same level as close of last series. TALLOW. At the tallow sales 1406 casks were offered and 316 sold at about sixpence decline. Mutton 47/9 to 42/9; beef 46/6 to 42/6.—(A. and N.Z.) CALCUTTA TEA SALES. (Received 10, I.lb p.m.) Calcutta, Dec. 9. At the tea sales, fine descriptions were irregular and declined half an anna, with the exception of fannings, which were fully firm. On the other hand commonest stalky kinds were in strong demand at full rates.—(A. and N.Z.) ,
