Australian Development
INTO SMILING GARDENS.
EX-GOVERNORGENERAL IX LONDON.
London, Dec. S.
A luncheon tendered in honour of Lord and Lady Forster was attended by a distinguished gathering at Australia House.
In a speech Lord Forster said Australia was developing in a manner which baffled description. Deserts were being turned into smiling gardens. It was all a really staggering achievement for so few people in such a brief time. Australia was growing fastest industrially, but with primary expansion there must be co-rclated and coordinated growth in other directions. He and his wife hoped always to be able to do something for the country in which they had left so large a portion of their hearts.
Mr W. C. Bridgeman acknowledged Australia’s help at a critical time by laying down two cruisers. Mr J. H. Thomas said he hoped to visit Australia next year.—(A. and N.Z.)
