Wool Values

Decline in Australia LONDON EXPERT'S SUGGESTION. GROWERS UNDULY ALARMED, (By Cable— Preet Association—Copyright.) (Received 4, 9.15 a.m.) London, May 3. Commenting on the decline in wool values in Australia and the suggestion to curtail sales, the “Economist’s” wool expert says he does not see anything to prevent merinos falling 15 per cent unless tlie Continent, especially Germany, takes the buying lead. He asks if there is not really more buying power than appears on the surface. Are not a good many frightened by their own shadow, and is trade not so bad as is supposed? Another wTitey says that unless good Continental support is forthcoming the London sales next week may result in a debacle.—(A. and N.Z.) A meeting of the National Council of Woolaelling Brokers has been called at Melbourne for Wednesday to consider the position created by the heavy fall in prices and the absence of substantial buying orders. The wool sales at Adelaide fixed for Thursday and Friday next have been postponed owing to the decline' in prices. Growers, who have disposed of 85 per cent of their clip, believe delaying the sales will result in the stabilisation of prices.
