This morning the pilot at Wairoa reported: —Wind, light north westerly; sea, moderate; bar, good. The new number plates for motor cycles are now available at the Hastings Post Office, where they may be procured on application. At the Napier Alagistratc’s Court this morning, before Air R. W. Dyer, S.M, Henry Louis Carter, charged with being drunk while in charge of a car, was remanded to appear ou Monday, Alay 11. Bail was allowed in one surely uf £IOU and one of £5O. At the valedictory social to Air. E. N Falck, the retiring pustmastor, last night in Hastings, the Alayor (All Maddison) wrote regarding his inability to be present and wishing Mi and Airs Falck every happiness, in th© course of his letter, he said that he was sure Air. Falck if he had hii way, would object to the Hastings Post Office being governed from Napiei (laughter) because it should have an independent status. Later in the evening, Mr. Penlington, lately chief nost master at Napier, said that the Hast nigs office accommodation was not all that could bo desired for the purpose of carrying on tho work of a town like Hastings, and so there might lie something in what the Alayor of Hastings had said. If Clive and Napier could be merged in with Hastings, and a harbour established at Cape Kidnappers. they might think about it (laughter). In the meantime, fie understood that the department had in view a fairly large extension of the Hastings buildings, so that the working conditions of the staff would be much improved. In the meantime they must hold themselves in hopeful patience.
