GUN RUNNING.
ANOTHER ARREST EFFECTED. London, Nov. 4. Firmin- mentioned in connection with the Attwood gun-running case, has been arrested and confined to prison, making three men detained indeterminately.—(Reuter.) The King’s Bench heard an alleged gun-running case in October last. The Crown sought to recover heavy penal ties for attempting to export machineguns. The defendants were James and Caril Attfield, Charles Hinman and Frederick Firmin. The prosecuting counsel stated that Captain Attfield entered into an agreement with Vickers to purchase 56 machine-guns, but the Board of Trade refused permission to export them. Hinman bought a fishing smack and the guns were placed (iborad and transhipped to a Dutch steamer at sea. Caril Attfield, Hiijman and Firmin pleaded guilty, and James Atfield not guilty. Caril Attfield was fined £6076 and Firmin and Hinman £14,060 each. It wag stated that the guns were intended for Russia.
