SCULLING.
WHO IS AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPION P
(Per Press Association.) Hamilton, Sept. 11. In view of the sculling race, Hannan versus Arnst, fixed for October 25th on tho Waikato river, a controversy has arisen in reference to the claim to • he Australasian title. To-day Mr. G. Ceruti, as hon. secretary, publishes a letter from the New South Wales Sculling League, which,> in effect, confirms the cable message claiming that McDevitt is the Australasian champion. Hannan, in reply, refers to H. deal’s published interview on behalf of the Auckland committee controlling the Hannan-McDevitt race on the Waitemata, in which Cleal stated that McDevitt admitted after Hannan had beaten him that Hannan wag the champion, deal, in closing the interview, said he would like to inform Mr. Ceruti, who was then in Auckland, that an able and reputable body was in existence quite capable of conducting the Australasian championship with out Mr. Ceruti’s assistance.
