WAIPUKURAU.

(Own Correspondent.) A general meeting of the receiitlyformed Waipukural Lodge of Oddfellows, 1.0.0. F., of New Zealand, was heid on Monday night, N.G. bro. Nelson presiding. The office-bearers ot the lodge were appointed as follows:— N.G., W. Nelson; V.G., D. Urquhart; nnancial secretary, D. boyle; chaplain, bro. Red. Fish; treasurer, bro. m. Francis; recording secretary, bro. K. Chappel; P.G.. uro. VV. lates; trustees, bro. E. A. Goodger, F. Fish, and b. H. Leigh. Various committees were formed and ten new members were eiected. lhe installation by tne G.M. ot New Zealand has been fixed tor October Bth.

A special of the Waipukurau borough Council was held on Tuesday night, the Mayor presiding over a full council. The purpose oi the meeting was to receive the iesignation of the town clerk, Mr. G. E. Fowler, consequent upon his appointment to the secretaryship of the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board. The Mayor stated that he greatly regretted losing Air. Fowler’s services to the borough and referred at length to the energy and enthusiasm displayed in his uuties and the ready manner in which lie had acquired a sound knowledge necessary to municipal administration. it was, however, some consolation to know that Mr. Fowler would remain a valued member of the community and carry, on the good work of the rower board, a movement m which all were interested.—The resignation or Air. i« owler was accepted with regret and it was decided to call applications tor the position ol town cierk at £350 with the proviso that no outside work was to be undertaken by the appointee. Aliss A. biitier, who has been acting as assistant to Air. Fowler, has been appointed to a permanent position in tne town clerk’s office.

Air. W. K. Kemball, of Masterton, paid a business visit to Waipukurau yesterday. Last evening in St. Alary’s Hall the Orphans’ Chib devoted its activities to the “Ladies’ Night.” '1 ho hall was decorated for the occasion and the building was packed. Chief Orphan W. G. Biryce presided and an excellent programme was provided by the Orphans. CENTRAL A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Central A. and P. Association was held on Tuesday, Air. Paul blunter presiding over a large meeting. The report indicated that the finances oi the association were in a satisfactory, condition. Out of this year's receipts £l3O of last year's liabilities had been wiped off. lhe report suggested that some means oi raising money should be put into operation in the near future. Thanks were extended to the Waipukurau Jockey. Club for the use of their grounds. The report was adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Sir Geo. Hunter, M.P.; vice-presidents. Messrs. R. Haldane, Paul Hunter, J. W. Harding and C. Pattison; hon. auditors, Alessrs. E. Broad and H. C. Garde; hon. veterinary surgeon, Air. A. Al. Brodie; lion, treasurer, Mr. J. H. Kibblewhite; secretary, Air. W. T. O’Donnell. It was decided that the name be changed to that of the “Waipukurau A. and P. Association.” It was also decided to change the date of the annual show to January 14th.
