WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held on Monday. Present; Crs. A. W. Cook (chair), A. Robottom, J. A. Kerr. L. Glenny, J. Butter and «T. Paton. ' Correspondence was dealt with as under:— Chairman No. 5 District Highways Council reported on preliminary cost Of works on main highways, stating that the board would contrihutp £ for £ on all costs excepting those portions not being part of the main, will be wholly met by the board.—Received. , Chairman, District itfohways Council approved of the metalling work on the Y7aipawa-Onga road being gone on with.—Received. Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded Motor Vehicles Bill. 1924. —Arrangements to be made for a conference with other bodies to consider the whole question. Under-secretary Public Works Do. partment advised that the Waipukurau traffic bridge comes under the Main Highwavs Act.—Received. Secretary Onga Onga Memorial Committee thanked the council fnr remission of ra+es.—Received. E. H. On the motion or the chairman the following were deelu/led noxious weeus: Gorse, broom and vanegaterl thistles. The Governments declaration is as regards blackberry and sneet briar. Mr P. Biair was appointed temporary ranger in the Takapau riding, consequent on the accident to the county ranger. The appointment of a ranger for the other, riding was leit in the hands pf the engineer. L. Fletcher, Onga Onga,. was allowed to take a private telephone wire over the county road. On the motion of Crs. Cook and Kerr, the clerk was instructed to sign up for the wiring of the county offices. The pay sheet amounted to £1629 17s 3d. Tenders were accepted as follows: Three hundred yards of pit metal at Oruawharo, Takapau, G. Forbes. 4s; 350 cubic yards of river shingle from Gwavas to Tikokino post office, H. J. Austin, 4s Id, subject to conditions; 200 yards of river shingle in Pa road, Tikokino, H. J. Austin, 4s 9d (conditional) ; reducing grade, filling and metalling papta cutting and Mangameke brideg, Wakarara, on Daxter, Cook and Manson, £150; forming, metalling and removing corner on Howard’s road, H. J. Austin, 4s: several tenders were received for supply of motor oil and benzine, but as they were subject to fluctuation of prices it was decided not to accept any tender. Fresh tenders are to be called for the continuation of a bridge.
