HIGH SCHOOLS' MATCH. DA NN EVI It KE (3) v. NAPIER (39). The Napier High School second team played a match with the Dannevirkc High School firsts on McLean Park, Napier, yesterday, and scored an easy win over their opponents by 39 points to three. The teams were as follows-: Napier.—Full-back. L. Holt; threequarters, Morrissey, C. Holt and Peters; five-eighths. Haughton ami Cooke; half. Moorhead; wing-forward Taylor; front row. Jackson and Hannah: middle row, Marshall. McClutchie and Cooper; back row. Hardy and Dillon. Dannevirke.—Simmons (captain), Allardice, Fredrickson. Brogan, Reciward, Simmers, Wylie, Mills, Clemence, AVatkins, Hickson Bayliss, Dassler. Davidson, McMeekin. In the first spell play wa s fairly even for a time, although the passing by the Napier backs far excelled that of the visitors, Clemence. Mills and Simmons preventing scores by good defensive work. Mills had a good chance of scoring a try for his side, but a knock-on spoilt it. Two free kicks in rapid succession were awarded Dannevirke, but nothing resultedNapier High School then opened its scoring account. From a nice pass by Cooke, Taylor crossed over, McClutchie converting. Napier 5. Dannevirke 0. Play had not been long resumed when Hannah got over a s a result of bad play by Dannevirke. McClutchie was again successful with the kick. Napier 10. Dannevirke 0. A beautiful passing rush by the home backs was nipped in the bad just in time, and then C. Holt made a great run. being pushed out into touch near the Dannevirke line. Cooper however, made amends and scored a try, which McClutchi© again added the major points to. Napier 15, Dannevirke 0. A mark by Simmers saved another hot onslaught. but not for long, as a fine piece of passing between Moorhead, Cooke and Haughton resulted in the latter gaining a try. McClutchie failed with ihei .kick. Napier 18, Dannevirke 0. The opening of the second half saw Napier on the aggressive, but good work by Simmons, Simmers, and Mills sent it back. Mills having an unsuccessful shot at goal. Napier, however, were decidedly playing the best game, indulging in good passing runs and showing far hotter dombination than Dannevirke. After a hot attack by the latter and being compelled to force down Napier soon retrieved itself and Hardy got over, McClutchie converting. Napier 23, Dannevirke 0. Peters put in a great run, and was only brought down in time. Taylor, however, came to the rescue and scorer!. McClutchie failed with the kick. Napier 28. Dannevirke 0. From this on Napier piled up the scores in rapid succession,' Moorhead. Peters, and Hardy gaining tries one of which was converted by McClutchie. Towards the end Dannevirke rallied, and Simmers landed a penalty goal from a difficult angle. .The game ended: Dannevirkje 3-. " , Air. 11. Batchelor was an efficient referee. H.B. UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the management committee of the Hawke’s Pay Rugby Union was held last evening. Present: Messrs J. AA r . Callaghan (chairman), N» McKenzie. H. Seed B. Tweedie, H. H. Knowles, R. H. Milburn, H. A 7. Phillips. H. Brown, AV. O’Neill, R. M. Hewitt, C. S. Findlay and AV. Anderson (secretary). Th© New Zealand Rugby Union advised that a special general meeting of the Union would be held on August 6th to discuss the proposal to rescind th© following resolution : “That no re-* instated player be included in the New Zealand team.” A request was received from the East Taupo Rugby Club that a team be sent through to play a friendly game be for© the close of the season.— The letter was referred to the Pirates Club, who intend making a holiday visit at an early date. AVaipawa sub-Union wrote stating that they could not arrange a date other than August 16th for a junior match.-—lt was decided to select two teams, one to play AVaipawa and the other AVairarapa, as arranged.
