FOOTBALL.

THE WAIPUKURAU CLUB. The annual meeting of the Waipukurau Football Club held last evening was largely attended. Mr. A. Gibson presided. In the course of a general .report on last season’s play the chairman declared that the club’s senior team had morally won the Sub-Union shield, but there had been considerable controversy over tlie matter. The existence of two senior teams locally had created greater interest in football. It was reported that old debts, accumulating for two years and more, and never faced, had been saddled on

to the present management committee. Th© total was about £lO4 and with payments made lately a debt of £47 15s 2d remained. It wag decided to make an effort to clean off this liability this season. Mr. A. Gibson was re-elected president, Mr. A. O. Wimsett was appointed secretary and enthusiastic members were elected to ether positions. Mr. R. Davey was appointed club captain. The number of teams to be entered was left to the Finance CommitteeIt wag decided to increase the subscription of senior players to £l. including insurance and to leave the subscription of junior players at 12s 6d. It wa s urged that the club should make an effort to lease or buy grounds of its own as the only way to make headway with its finances. At present th e gate at Russell Park is divided up between the Borough Council, the Hockey Club and the football clubs, the latter sharing up one third. This was considered inequitable, and provided insufficient funds for the club to carry on. Th e management committee wa s recommended in th© meantime to ask the Borough Council to re-adjust the division of th e gate money.
