[By Cable.—Presa Association.—Copyright.|
(Received 1, 8.55 a.m.) uonuon, .Jan. 31. The “Daily Mail" says Mr. MacDonald iniormeu au Eaniourgh unemployed deputation that relief must depend on the niiaucial arrangements the Government was able to make. They must wait until the departments were in working order the new regime. He promised in his opening speecn on February 12th to announce proposals regarding unemployment, housing, credits at home and abroad, and rey cognition of Russia. A private contereuce of the executives of the budding trades unions passed a resolution or hearty support; of the Government’s desire to deal with the housing problem. Mr. Wheatley addressed the conference, explaining the difficulties to be surmounted. The "Daily News” learns that the Government is preparing a comprehensive scheme for organising the building industry nationally over a fairly long period, with a guarantee of continuity of employment for trade unionists, thereby overcoming the unionists’ previous objections to augmentations of skilled labour by the employment of trained men who have not served the usual apprnticeship.—(A. and N.Z.)
