HAWKE CUP A'IATCU. Wanganui, Dec. 5. The first Hawke Cup challenge match of the season was commenced to-day in beautiful weather, ihe wicket was fast and the outfield keen. Alanawatu batted first and scored 171—Grant 33, Pegd’3ll (not out) 23, Harrison 28, Rose 18, Hodder 16. Aim 12. Holland took five for 72. Thomson two for 37 and Treadwell one for 8. Wanganui failed with the bat, being dismissed for 127. London gave a bright display for 11, the other principal irun-getters being Orton 20. V» illiams (not out) 14, Orr 16. M e Vicar bowled very successfully, capturing five for 25. Grant took two for 26 and Hone two for 33. When stnmns were drawn for the d-iy Manawatu had lost six for 85— Grant 31. Hodde’* 16. Pegden 10, McVi' , nr (not out) 10. The chnllengeirs now have a total lend of 129 runs with four wickets in hand. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
