HASTINGS ORPHANS.

ANNUAL CONCERT AND BUIL LESQUE. The Hastings Orphans’ Club presented their annual concert before a larg© and appreciative audience at the Hastings Alunicipal Theatre last evening, As explained by Chief Orphan Davies at the commencement of the programme, the proceeds of the annual concert are always oonated to some deserving cause and the object selected this year was the Girls’ Knenuiv bociety iqnd. Throughout the programme the Orphans concerned acquitted themselves admirably every item being insistently encored. An overture, “Chu Chin Chow,” by the Orphans’ Orchestra conducted by Orphan A. Dou, opened the proceedings and was much enjoyed. The first half uf the programme was in the form of a concert, while the second half was devoted to the screamingly funny burlesque revue “Babes in the Wood.” After the massed Orphans had sung their opening chorus “Homage to Our Chief,’’ items were given as follows, each one receiving an enthusiastic recall; Songs, Orphans D. L. Crooks, F. S. Thomas and R. Horsefield; violin solo, Orphan N. Watson; banjo duet. Orphans W. Knox and S. Ruse; whistling solo, Orphan E. T- Feeney. During the interval the orchestra played two selections, “Slim Tiombone” (soloist. Orphan P. S. George) and “Ole South,” both of which were veil received. The burlesque revue, “Babes in the Wood,” which constituted th© second portion of the evening’s entertainment, kept the audience in a constant ripple of laughter, frequently breaking into bursts of unrestrained merriment. All the. participants portrayed their roles in most creditable manner, the “ladies” especially rising to the occasion in a truly feminine fashion. The parts were filled as follows:—Airs Stepney, Orphan H. G. Davies; Roland and Rose (Airs Stepney’s children), Ngaire Kirklev and Margaret von Dadelszen ; Mrs Tyro Stepney (a mother of “babes”). Orphan T. B. McNeil: Dodge Stepney (one of the “hahes”). Orphan J. Stickland; Lizzie Stepney (another of th© “babes”) Orphan G. Turner; ’Grace (Hie wicked uncle of the “holies”). Orphan O. C- Stephens; Afimio Jermimer Tanque (the beautiful daughter of the Dame). Orphan H. Poppehvoll; Odiva Tanque (the Dame). Orphan Tom Brennan : William Charles Cisten Tanque (the Dame’s son). Orphan E. R. Whyte; Gloaming (Willie’s equine idol), Orphans A. Toothill and J. Anderson ; Paki Paki Pete (a rob, her), (the Dame’s lost huhhy). Orphan' G. R. Salmon; Aloleskin (a robber). Orphan FL Roach : Jack Beanstalk (Mimie’s lover). Orphan FT. G Rodgers ; Ginsios. Orphans D. Crooks. C. Crooks. R A. Bamgdale. J. Bewley. R. Snaddon, FT. Bunny and E. T. Feeney. Songs and musical numbers, all of which were received with rounds of well-merited applause, were introduced as follows: Song, “Afv Old Man’s a Dustman.” Orphan T.
