The need of protection of the beneficiaries in private estates called for the establishment of the State-guaranteed Office in 1872, and the enterprise has proved a boon to many thou sands of people. The demand lor this safe service has so grown among all sections of the population that, the Public Trustee is now represented in one hundred districts. The number of wills held on deposit on behalf of living poisons now exceeds 36,000, and the aggregate is increasing at • the rate of 400 a month. The cash balances held at the credit of estates and funds at 31st March, 1923, amounted to £14,916,227 (an.increase of over £6,000,000 since the year 1917). The total value of assets and funds under, administration by the office was £28,904,798 at. 31st March, 1923. These are striking figures of success, figures of progress, figures indicating the people’s confidence.
