A notification published in last night’s “Gazette’’ states that His Majesty the King has been pleased to approve the retention of the title of “ HoJiourable ’ ’ by Sir Frederic William Lang, formerly Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand.

Mr. R. T. Sadd, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Otago, formerly of Napier, who is retiring on superannuation at the end of the present month, was entertained at Dunedin on YVednesday by the members of the Lands and Survey Department, the Otago Land Board, and the private surveyors of the city. Air. Sadd’s services were eulogised by several speakers, and he was the recipient of presentations.

Airs Al. A. Perry, who has done so much for Rugby football in Hawke’s Bay, is to be presented with an eightday gold watch by the management committee of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union at her residence, Otatara, on Sunday, October 21.

Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., of Wellington, who has been on relieving duty in Auckland owing to the death of Air. J. E. Wilson, S.M-, will be permanently stationed in Auckland. His place on the Bench at Wellington will probably be taken by Mr. 0. R. OnWalker, who recently returned from Samoa, where he occupied the position of Chief Judge for several years.

Air. G. K. McAllum, teller at the Hastings branch of the Union Bank, was met yesterday afternoon by his fellow officers to bid him farewell on the eve of his departure for Christ church, whither he has been transferred on promotion. Mr. W. H. Lunn, Manager of the bank, on behalf of the staff, spoke of Air. McAllum’s capable and loyal service to the bank and of his courtesy to the public. He took the opportunity of congratulating him on his approaching marriage and he asked him to accept a set of carvers as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by his fellow workers in the branch. They all joined in wishing Mr. McAllum and his bride-elect a loug, prosperous and happy life. Mr. McAllum replied, thanking his comrades for their kind expressions and for their very useful gift.. Air. McAllum will be succeeded in the Hastings branch of the bank by his brother, Air. C. F. McAllum, of Christchurch.

Air. A. D. Park, at present Secretary of the Marine Department, has been appointed assistant Public Service Commissioner on tlte retirement on superannuation of Air., W. R. Morris. Mr. P. VeiTschaffelt had been appointed Public Service Commissioner, and this had left the position of assistant Public Service Commissioner vacant. Mr. Park is 41 years of age. He joined the public service in 1900 after passing the public service entrance examination. He was in the Public Works Department, and had experience in various parts of the North and South Islands. Air. Park served in the South African war. He is a qualified accountant. On leaving the Public Works Department he was appointed accountant in the Department of Agriculture and reorganised the system of account ing there, besides introducing commercial systems for experimental and special farms. Subsequently he was appointed inspector in the Public Service Commissioner’s office. Early in 1922 he was appointed to the Marine Department as Acting-Secretary, and afterwards Secretary.
