CANTEEN FUNDS.
MERGING WITH WAR FUNDS. ’ R.S.A. OPPOSITION. Wellington, Sept. 12. The proposal to merge the canteen fund in other war founds was strenuously opposed at last night’s meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Colonel McDonald explained that they had a great struggle to prevent this sacred trust being used for other purposes than that for which it was in-tended-amelioration of the position of soldiers wounded in the war. Tt was unanimously resolved: That this meeting is of opinion that the canteen fund should not be used for any other purpose than that for which [it was raised, and that it should not be handed over to any other board.”
