TOLL IN OTAGO. THIRTY-SIX DEATHS LAST MONTH Dunedin, Aug. 8. The monthly report of the mediail health officer shows that of 219 notifications of infectious diseases, pneumonic influenza contributed 152. Of a total of 55 deaths. 36 were due to influenza.
OUTBREAK ON THE TOFU A. QUARANTINE IN THE ISLANDS. Auckland, August 7. A private wireless message states that the Tofua was quarantined at Apia. The Union Company states that this was due to mild influenza among the passengers. The steamer was gram* ed pratique at Suva, but had to work under quarantine at Tonga and Samoa. She loads th© usual cargo at Suva, leaving for Auckland to-morrow evening.
