MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES.
RETRENCHMENT AT CHRISTCHURCH. Christchurch, July 24. By nine votes to seven the City Council decided to grant a bonus of 4s weekly, from June 25. to employees with five or more dependents. The question of retiring a number of aged and infirm employees was discussed. The City Council last night decided that notice of termination of employment be given 14 men. Twelve men will receive three months’ notice and two one month’s notice, and men with over two years’ service will receive retiring allowances varying from three to one month’s pay.
