Another Poison Trial

AMAZING CASE AT BERLIN. WOMEN’S MURDER CONSPIRACY. thy Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 16, 10 a.m.) Berlin, Maich 15. The amazing correspondence of two women was revealed m the Berlin criminal court. Ihe writers, Ella Klein, a carpenter’s wife and Margaret xXebbe were charged with conspiracy to poison their husbands with rat cake, with which their coffee, porridge and soap were daily dosed. The carpenter died, but Nebbe’s husband escaped with permanent injury to his health. The wives meanwhile exchanged 600 letters couched in terms of extravagant affection and including full details of how the poison was administered and the effects upon their husbands. Thus the carpenter’s wife wrote: I am lying in bed. Klein is wandering up and down the room in a fever. He has pains; 1 will not loosen my clutch and will not let him get well again. The defence is that the two husbands were men of debased character, who drove the women to the verge of insanity by ill-treatment. Much evidence was given in camera.—(A. and N.Z.)
