THE MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS
COMING BY MAIL TRAIN. As the result of telegraphic communication received by Mr. Gilbert McKay, member for Hawke’s Bav, it is now learned that lhe Minister of Public Works, the Hon. J. G. Coates, 1 is coming through from Wellington today, not by motor-car as previously announced, but by the mail train. Mr. AfcKay had wired the Minister asking him if he could not spare an hour at Hastings en route to Napier, and received a reply to the foregoing effect. He is. however, having the opportunity during the train’s brief stop at Hastings to draw the Afinister’s attention to one or two matters affecting the progress of the town —notably the still unsatisfactory position with regard to the Russell street railway reserve leases—which he may discuss further with him as they journey together to Wairoa to the opening of the Waikaremoana hydro-electric connection with Wairoa.
