WERAROA ESCAPEES.

OFFENCES AT WAIROA. At the Wairoa Police Court yester J day two Weraroa escapees were brought up and charged with a series of crimes committed since escaping just before Christmas. Their names were Frederick George Lester and Walter Reid Hill. The charges were: —(1) Stealing one bay gelding valued at £5, the property of Alafiu Edwards (2) stealing two gig lamps and a cushion, the property of T. R. Aldridge. of Turiroa; (3) breaking and entering the Wairoa Dairy Factory premises and stealing 881 b. butter one pair of gum boots, twb suits of overalls and a military tunic, the property of the company; (4) stealing from a mailbag at Tarawa two postal packets; (5) stealing one tent at Napier, the property of Eric Caro. The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and were committed for sentence to the Supreme Court at Wellington. Tlio accused were also charged with having stolen at Palmerston North, on December 14, a rubber-tyred gig ami a set of harness, the property of A. Newdick; also stealing a mare at Ohan, belonging to some person unknown. They were remanded on these charges to appear at Palmerston N. The total value of the articles stolen was between £5O and £6O.
