PROPOSED FREIGHT REDUCTION (Received 8, 11.15 a.m.) Sydney, Dee. 8. Local shipping circles object to the proposal of the London office ui the Commonwealth Line to phue arrangeFieiits lor lifting new season AUstia han wheat in the. hands of a combin ation of London chartering houses as an indictment for the adoption of a scheme of chartering. The commission is fixed at 0.l per cent, in lieu of 6 per cent but it is contended that the apparent reduction will not reduce the heights, and on the other hand a monopoly will tend to advance freights. Victoria, South Australia and West Australia are favourable to the scheme; New south Wales is determined to adhere to the open market.—(A. and N.Z.)
